Its just like in real life! Opinions from the game industry have started to filter out about the polarising Nintendo 3DS Slide Pad add-on. Just like on the internet people are divided. First up a positive from industry giants Activision, who have called the add-on a "smart-move".
Speaking to Industry Gamers, Activision Publishing boss Eric Hirshberg has stated that "It does make the hardware more relevant and compatible to the style of games we make," when asked if the add-on would mean more shooters would come to the system. However, they dont have anything specific to announce for the system.
On the flip site, independent developers Gaijin Games have coming out slamming the add-on, calling it crap. Gaijin Games are the minds behind the Bit.Trip games. Speaking to Tiny Cartridge they said "Also, as a developer, it’s a bummer whenever first parties come out with something like this. Whether it’s the Expansion Slide Pad, Wii Motion Plus, PlayStation Move, or Kinect, developers have a hard decision to make about whether they want to support the new features of the hardware.
From one perspective, new hardware is very exciting, but from another perspective, it’s very risky; because if your game requires it, that means that you’re forcing the player to have that hardware. And not all consumers will have bought the new device."
The best thing is that for now, its optional. Lets see how long it lasts or if a 3DS revision in the future may have it built in.
Hands on events coming before launch.
