The path to success for the Nintendo 3DS hasn’t been an easy one, now two and a half years after its launched its passed a tremendous milestone.
The 3DS has now outsold the Wii in Japan with a total of 12.7 million consoles versus the 12.6 million consoles of the Wii. With the Wii pretty much dead don’t expect this to change anytime soon.
This news comes just two weeks after the release of Monster Hunter 4 in Japan which has now sold 2.2 million copies. The good news for the 3DS isn’t stopping either with Pokemon X & Y sure to give the console another boost in just under two weeks.
Now Nintendo, time to work on the Wii U problem.

It does give a bit more hope to the Wii U situation, considering how weak the 3DS was after launched, however it will be a much bigger task to bring the Wii U back on course.
If Wii U can even do half of what 3DS does then it will be a great success. Now I’m no analyst (doesn’t mean much really) but if Nintendo can turn the tides over time with various things such as price drops, more software, having the competition actually released and not just a mythical thing to fight against… I’m still sticking with 40-50 Million life time sales.
WiiU will never recreate the original Wii’s success but I do feel they will make good on the system with enough time.
