3DS Homebrew means people actually care about Cubic Ninja now Update: EB Games removes from sale

Good luck finding one.

Update: We’ve received word that EB Games here in Australia  has moved to remove all traces of Cubic Ninja from its stores.

The game has since vanished (cached) from the online store and now has a price listing of 9999.99 in their system we’re told. That price is usually reserved for preorder items, basically things you can’t buy. The game simply now can’t be bought from either a store or online, even if you attempt to buy it you can;t.

We couldn’t say if this move came from Nintendo or if EB Games took it upon themselves to remove the game. Expect the cost of the game to soar now on eBay and other second hand markets.

Perhaps EB were just annoyed with all the calls?

Update 2: Cubic Ninja is also being removed the eShop, the Japanese one at least. There was a notice posted yesterday that the game would be removed and it has since been removed.

Original Story: Released in 2011 the Ubisoft puzzler Cubic Ninja flew under the radar of most, it was also one of the first 3DS games not to use the 3D effect. We thought it was alright in our review all the way back then.

Now it’s being noticed for a completely different reason.

Cubic Ninja is the key to unlocking the Nintendo 3DS for homebrew purposes thanks to the ability to edit levels, the save files can be interfered with and then through voodoo the power of homebrew can be unlocked. This method is said to also not allow games to be pirated but instead only open the door for applications and emulators. All of which you’re just going to play your backed up games on of course.

Sales of the now out of print game have skyrocketed since the news broke with it becoming one of the top selling items on Amazon. The game has also become the new Battletoads as everyone who wants one calls EB Games stores to see if they have one in stock. Before the rush you could find a copy of the game for around $10, now expect to pay more.

Don’t expect to see a patch for this game any time soon either as AQ Interactive are no longer, it’ll be up to Nintendo to figure out some way to stop it – if at all possible.
