Over 1000 indie developers want to work on Wii U – Nintendo
Nintendo of America’s Dan Adelman has revealed that over 1000 independent developers have contacted Nintendo with interest in developing for the Wii U.
Speaking to Gamespot, Adelman has said the response from developers big and small has been ‘overwhelming’.
“We’ve got some who have recently left their jobs in mainstream publishers and are starting a new company, or have been indies for a while. All the way to high school students who are thinking of getting into game development and want to know more about it.” Adelman also says that supporting everyone is hard work but Nintendo are doing their best to get to everyone.
The barrier of entry for development is as low as possible as well. Wii U development kits are cost ‘of a decent PC says Adelman, couple with the fact that Nintendo will pay for any platform fees to use Unity, it’s quite simple and cheap for developers to get building on the Wii U.
The Unity Engine is a common engine used by developers worldwide to make games for multiple platforms, iOS, Android and PC games can easily be ported to the Wii U thanks to this.
The full interview with Adelman can be found here and if you’re keen to learn more about the development on Wii U for indies is a great read.
Make that 1001 indie developers. I’ll probably have to switch over to Unity sometime in the future as I too would love to have my indie games available on the Wii U eShop.
