It's something of a hot topic among gamers. What is happening with Goldeneye? Fans of the Nintendo 64 classic have been waiting for the much-talked about XBLA version or an appearance on Wii's virtual console, but legal issues have thrown a spanner in the works. Speaking to Destructoid, Rare's Nick Burton has said that issues with the James Bond license (which currently belongs to Activision) is preventing the release. More inside
Capcom has conducted a survey asking what would make you want to purchase Resident Evil 5 more. Among the options to choose from was "The release of a Wii version". The game is very similar to Resident Evil 4, much more so than Dead Rising, so could we see another port using the RE4 engine? With recent comments that could be hinting at a Wii version, and now this, it seems possible. Considering the success of Resident Evil 4: Wii edition and Umbrella Chronicles, both of which sold over one million each, Capcom would be crazy not to.
Square-Enix have announced (or stated the obvious, whichever you prefer) that Chrono Trigger will be available for the first time in Europe and PAL territories through the Nintendo DS. Unlike the recent Final Fantasy III and IV for DS, Chrono Trigger will not be remade into 3D, but will remain its traditional form. A new dungeon has been added for those who played it before, as well as DS Wireless Play and support for both dual screens and touch functionality. PAL gamers will get their first taste of what many argue is the greatest game ever made some time early 2009.
Hardware and electronic company Asus have announced a new PC controller, bearing striking resemblance to the nunchuk attachment for the Wii remote. It appears to be two wireless nunchuks; one with the analogue stick and the other with buttons in place. Asus even went to the trouble of creating wrist straps and an overall shape identical to that of Nintendo's nunchuck. More inside
A new survey from Rockstar Games has hinted at features that may or may not be included in the upcoming Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Stories for the Nintendo DS. Absolutely nothing is known on this game so far and this survey is the first glance at just what Rockstar are thinking about with the game. Survey participants were asked to grade the following features and how much they would want them to be in the game. More inside
If you haven’t heard yet, the Wii version of Rock Band is pretty lacking in all the cool features that make Rock Band on the Xbox 360 and PS3 fun to play. Modes like online and additions such as DLC which won’t feature on the Wii version have made the game for Wii owners not a worthy purchase (that’s if we could have bought it anyway). But now Harmonix has revealed in a new interview that sequel will be more fully stocked than last year. More inside
David Braben, studio boss of Frontier, told VG247 “We’d be stupid not to look at the LostWinds world,”. While fans of the popular WiiWare title would delight in the news of a sequel, Frontier are "not announcing anything yet".
Braben claims he was pleasantly surprised by the reaction to the game. Not a confirmation, but by the sounds of it one is more than likely. Expect to hear more details about the inevitable sequel some time soon.
Picked up Square-Enix’s different take on the Final Fantasy franchise when it was released a few months back and even lapped up the downloadable content for the game (a first for the Wii, too)? Well if you were expecting any more, it’s not coming. Speaking in a interview, My Life as a King director Kenichiro Yuji has confirmed “That’s everything for now, and we have no plans for future DLC at the moment.”
Think you’re annoyed with the releases Australia gets on Virtual Console? Then put on the shoes of North American Wii owners, SNK, Capcom and Hudson; all of which where told that they would be able to enjoy (or sell) Samurai Shodown II and the long awaited duo of Mega Man and Ys Book I & II, only to have it pulled from them at the last moment. With Wii Music nearing completion, it seems Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto needs to go back to the drawing board to come up with some fresh ideas on how to continue the Wii's stunning momentum. In a new interview, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata said: "Wii Music completes what Miyamoto wrote in his proposal when he came up with the idea for the Wii." "He was saying that he needs to think up more ideas now," Mr Iwata said. More inside
In an new interview with Hironobu Takeshita, producer of Mega Man 9, it was revealed that the game would come with not just the look of a NES game, but the glitches too! Via the options menu of the game, old-school glitches like flickering - as would be found on a real NES game - can be turned on, to give a more complete 'retro' experience. "In the options of this game, you can adjust that, unlike the old games. We purposely put some of those old-school bugs into this game, so it does recreate that feel. " Takeshita said. Retro gamers are in for a treat, as Mega Man 9 has been created with NES limitations specifically in mind.
A new survival horror game is in the works, coming from developer Deep Silver. The game is titled ‘Cursed Mountain’ and takes you back to the marvelous decade of the 1980’s. It puts you in the role of a mountaineer who sets off to find his brother who just happened to go missing in the Himalayan Mountains. On his way up the Mountain, he naturally encounters an ancient curse with the souls of people who died there haunting up the place and doing all sorts of nasty things. More inside
We had third party accessories for everything on the Wii except for Wii Remotes and Balance boards; you can now scrub the second one off the list, as a third party has announced a new Balance Board for the Wii. While you can’t buy Wii Fit separately, you can still get the board for any number of other third party games that support it - such as Skate It or Family Ski. However, this includes an LCD screen and speaker for announcing and displaying one’s weight; so would you really pay just under the Wii Fit price for something you’re getting in Wii Fit anyway?
Capcom UK's research and planning manager, Rhys Cash, says that they are not interested in removing the gore to achieve a lower age rating. “We’re never going to create a gore-free Resident Evil title to try and get a lower rating as it’s a game about the horror experience and gore is part of that,” says Cash. “We’re primarily about making great games and if it’s appropriate to the title we won’t shy away from making a 15+ or 18+ title.” More inside
Two WiiWare games have hit the Australian Wii Shopping Channel today: First up is the long awaited Defend your Castle. The game, based on the flash game of the same name, has received a big graphical improvement as well as the addition of multiplayer. The game is a cheap 500 Wii Points and worth having a look at. The second game is Wild West Guns; a game similar to arcade light-gun shooters. However, being a brand new game out, we don’t know how good it is yet! Wild West Guns will set you back 1000 points.
Activision has announced a collaboration with Logitech to develop premium controllers for Guitar Hero: World Tour. Logitech will be offering the instruments for all platforms, and will be compatible with World Tour's advanced feature set. While third party Guitars are nothing new, it’s the first time licenced instruments have been created. Expect the quality of the products to match the price, the accessories will be available later this year (after the game is released).
Electronic Arts CEO, John Riccitiello, revealed at an annual investor's conference that EA Redwood Shores' upcoming sequel 'The Godfather 2' is now slated for a late 2008, early 2009 release. The game, inspired by Francis Ford Coppola's classic film trilogy, will now allow players to take control of a mafia empire though Real Time Strategy-style top-down controls as well the ability to switch back to the third person controls from the first game. While no platforms have been officially announced, a Wii version is not impossible as the first game was on the system and sold pretty well.
First4Figures has announced yet another statue to add to its videogame collection; this time it's Sonic the Hedgehog! The first in a series, Sonic has been modeled from official artwork of the classic games, standing 12 inches (30.48 centimeters) tall, base included. Each one has been hand numbered, includes an authenticity card and comes in full colour packaging. The statue features classic Sonic the Hedgehog on a 'Green Hill Zone' inspired base. It will be available in September, costing US$99.99. Check import stores like Play-Asia to pick one of these up when available!
While Capcom had great success with the Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition port, the Okami Wii port has not faired as well. The game which deserves the same sort of sales RE4 got only sold 280,000 copies between the US & Europe. The outlook for a sequel is also grim with a Capcom employee saying on their blog that more copies will have to shift before Capcom considers a sequel. Perhaps you overlooked Okami when it released? Well if you’re stuck for a game to play it’s one third party game on the Wii that deserves your cash.
