EB Games unable to fulfill all A Link Between Worlds 3DS XL console pre-orders, offering $30 gift cards

EB Games Australia has emailed some of its customers this afternoon to let them know that the The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds 3DS XL console they pre-ordered won’t be honored.

A reader has sent us the email sent to them explaining the situation, according to the email “Due to a mistake on our [EB Games’] part, we don’t have enough stock to fulfill all of our orders. As we allocate on a first come, first served basis this means that unfortunately your order cannot be fulfilled.”

There’s going to be a lot of disappointed Zelda fans out there this weekend.

EB Games are trying to make up for the error with a $30 gift card to use in-store on anything, they suggest that you can use it on A Link Between Worlds to get the game for half price. A small consolation compared to the rare and shiny gold 3DS XL console our reader assumed they would be receiving. It’s kind of unfair too as EB Games stores as of Thursday afternoon still have posters displaying the console in store.

Our reader tells us this is an order from the EB Games online store, we’re not sure if local store stock could be affected this way either. We recommend you ring your local store to confirm they have your 3DS XL, Xbox One launch be damned.

We will approach both EB Games Australia and Nintendo Australia for comment.

That is really bad news. I haven’t received an email from them so I’m hoping mine’s OK, but I feel really bad for anyone who’s going to miss out. Did the reader happen to mention what date they placed their order? Mine was 24 October.

This scared me for a minute before I realised mine was already sent out on Monday! No wonder it’s been pulled from the site if pre-orders couldn’t even be met. Now I’m glad I got in quickly after it was available.

Sadly, I got this email 🙁 I bought one on eBay for $400 (almost a $120 premium). But what can I do? I will never shop at EB again.

Me too, I paid and missed out. Daughters 18th birthday present and they don’t care. It’s all about their profit. I will not shop there again either! It’s criminal

This is really crappy of EB 🙁 I don’t have the email so I’m hoping that means I’m still getting mine.

For those who missed out, I know they are still available on OzGameShop.com for about $320 with free shipping. Might be worth paying that bit extra if you really want them. OGS have never let me down.

I also ordered online, and got one saying:

We have some unfortunate news regarding your preorder for the The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds 3DS XL console.

Due to a mistake on our part, some of our stock for the console will be arriving late, and won’t arrive in time for launch day on November 22.

At the moment we are hoping to ship your order by next Friday, the 29th of November. We would like to apologise for any inconvnenience caused by this delay.

If you have any questions, please call our Customer Support Team on 133 930 (8am-6pm AEST, Mon-Fri; 10am-4pm Sat-Sun)

I guess I ordered before the people who got the gift card, but after the people who’ll be getting theirs on time.

Just got an SMS notification saying that mine will be ready to pick up in store tomorrow.
At least pre ordering in person seems to be reliable enough. Fingers crossed they don’t sell my console to someone else!

“Fingers crossed they don’t sell my console to someone else!”

That’s my main fear at the moment! I got the confirmation SMS but I also got dragged into working an 8hr shift tomorrow so I can’t pick it up until Sunday…

Phew. Nearly had a heart attack when I saw this news story. Thought it meant the game itself!

Sod that awful looking thing, glad they’ve just got the game. Can’t wait to go grab it now. Once the heart palpitations calm.

Got the message too. This is the third time eb games has stuffed up on a preorder for me so not happy.

I would strongly discourage anyone from taking their recommended offer of using your 30$ voucher to buy zelda. Buy it at jb hifi for way cheaper. When you spend your voucher at eb games spend no more than the $30 and shop there no more.

Meanwhile there are tonnes of these on eBay for $100s more.

This is really poor form from both Nintendo AU and EB AU, not in terms of creating demand, but providing insufficient amounts of stock. It’s unfair to people who can’t buy online or preorder for whatever reason, and just promotes eBay scalping. One would think Nintendo would get some more stock in as they need increased sales to cover for the Wii U which is up the creek.

It’ll be interesting to see if Nintendo or EB get back to Vooks. I asked around at EB online and in store and they both said they will not be receiving more stock.

Just went and picked mine up in store today. They said they they were able to fulfill all in store pre orders as that stock was allocated to the stores already and each individual store stopped taking pre orders when it’s allocation was gone. Apparently their online system was the problem…

  • November 23, 2013 at 4:49 pm

Got mine today, I’m pretty pleased with it =]
Feel sorry for the others who pre-ordered a bit later than I did.

Not sure why everyone’s surprised. All these Zelda edition devices sell out every time, back to the gold GBA SP. They’re meant to be limited, so of course Nintendo wouldn’t arbitrarily boost stock. EB had the pre-order page open long enough to order from and pulled it down shortly after (though not soon enough, apparently). The fact that there are many happy customers, to say nothing of scalpers with seemingly dozens of these things is proof enough that stock levels were acceptable, given the good 10 day+ window to order.

Mine arrived today. I am so thankful I didn’t hit this issue, I only ordered it a month ago (27 oct)!

Yes. EB must be ‘thieves,’ not because they actually stole anything meaningful (the very definition of the word) but because they thieved your gratification of not having a perfect box. Something that won’t affect your gaming one iota and for doing so, they lost a consumer FO’ LYFE! They weren’t kidding when they said this was a soft generation.

Oh ouch, that sucks I preordered mine the next day after once Ebgames announced the limited edition console a few hours ago on their facebook page. Got my 3DS console on the day of it’s release although in Perth, WA no one really purchased any of them when i walked in the store, they were all purchasing the game rather the console…kinda feel bad for those who cannot get theirs hope they get a second batch in or something! it’s not fair for those who preordered it!
