Aussie Bargain Roundup: Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest and Birthright
After long last you can finally count down the days until Fire Emblem Fates on your hands! It’s been a while since the game was announced, released in Japan, got a US release date, was released in America and eventually we got ours.
For Fire Emblem Fates, Nintendo has chosen to split the game up into two different stories. This isn’t your standard Pokemon version split with slightly different monsters to battle or collect, no the difference between Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright and Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest is more than that.
Each of the games has a completely different ‘path’ of a story but it’s more than that each game has been tweaked at its core to offer two different experiences. Birthright, is the more newcomer friendly title. Very similar to Awakening, has more simple objectives and gives out items and money more freely. The story is also more ‘friendly’ and perhaps a little less deep.
Conquest, is more complex and offers less money and items. It’s the title for Fire Emblem veterans. There are more changes and complex story differences than what we’ve said here but for the sake of a bargain guide this should help you choose which game you should buy. Check out Nintendo’s guide for more information.
The third Path Revelations will be released later and include characters from both Birthright and Conquest. So it’s worth playing both of the games before moving on this, but you don’t have to buy both games.
So do you have to buy both games to get the full experience. Yes, but you don’t have to get both cards if you don’t want to. You might see both Birthright and Conquest in stores but after a certain time in either game (chapter 6) you can then download the other version in the in-game menu for a healthy discount of $26AUD / $34NZD.
If you were lucky and bought the special edition of the game then you don’t have to worry, you get one cartridge with both stories and then third downloadable story as well. Nintendo of America put this handy flow-chart together if you’re still not sure what to pick up.
Well then, onto the prices!

EB Games
- Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright – $59.95 – Link
- Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest – $59.95 – Link

eShop – Digital
- Fire Emblem Fates – $59.95
- Note: You cannot buy both versions of the game separately on the eShop. The game on the eShop is simply ‘Fire Emblem Fates’ and you’ll be able to pick your path once you reach a certain point in the game. The other version of the game costs $26AUD / $34NZD. So instead of buying both for $119.90 (which you can’t), buy one $59.95 and get the discounted other chapter in game. Revelations (the third game) is of course digital only.
- Digital Offer: There’s actually a couple of offers here, in exchange for 20 Gold Points on My Nintendo you can get 10% off the game. That brings the eShop version down to $53.95. This offer will expire on June 16th. Secondly if you buy either version of the game in the first four weeks there’s a free ‘Two Kingdoms’ 3DS home menu theme in it.
- Digital Offer – Combo: EB Games have 10% off eShop cards from May 21st (the games release date). So if you’re buying digital you’re going to use the 10% off from My Nintendo right? That makes the game $53.95.So buy a $60 eShop card for $54 (the 10% off) and you’ll then have $6.05 extra credit on your eShop balance after buying the game. With that $6.05 you can apply that to the $26 it costs for the second version of the game bringing it down to $20.05. So you’ve saved 10% on the main game, and then a further 25% off second version of the game.

The eShop only has one generic version where you pick your version after Chapter 6.

How much is the special edition (all three versions at retail)? Is this on sale anywhere?
You missed one, Vook:

Both versions for $99, pretty good deal.
Isn’t ANYBODY selling the Special Edition at retail? This is absolutely ridiculous. Absolutely no-one had it, and I won’t buy any other version if this is how Nintendo wants to treat their loyal customers. I shouldn’t have to go out of my way on launch day to support them. I was more than happy to pay full price for the special edition. Nintendo isn’t even acknowledging the existence of the Special Edition in their launch publicity for Fates. Pre-ordering wasn’t even an option because everyone “pre-sold out” months ago. What gives?
The early bird catches the worm.
Yeah LE is actually LE. Nintendo Aus printed more for a June date but those have also been pre-ordered to capacity.
I managed to order the 2nd shipment from eb about 6 weeks ago. It was all gone within days.
“Nintendo isn’t even acknowledging the existence of the Special Edition in their launch publicity for Fates.”
But retailers such as EB and JB did.
And if you were paying attention, Nintendo AU did acknowlege the existence of the Special Edition on their website and twitter account.
